Antananarivo – Maroantsetra – Masoala – Nosy Mangabe

Journey to Madagascar’s pristine rain forests and meet the intriguing wildlife that inhabits them. Enjoy a visit to the market town of Maroantsetra, The Masoala National Park and the beautiful rain forest covered island of Nosy Mangabe.

Day 1: Antananarivo

Today is an arrival day. You are free to arrive at any time and you will be welcomed at the airport by your tour manager and then transferred to your hotel.

Antananarivo, often abbreviated to Tana, has a distinctively French flavour and atmosphere: French is widely spoken and road, as well as shop signs (such as boulangerie or épicerie), are mostly in French.

Day 2: Antananarivo – Maroantsetra – Masoala

This morning we travel to Ivato airport where we board our plane and fly to Maroantsetra on the northeast coast of the island. Situated at the far end of the Bay of Antongil, the market town of Maroantsetra is a gateway to an awesome national treasure. From the airport we transfer by boat to Masoala.

Day 3: Visiting the Masoala NP

The Masoala National Park was named as a world heritage site in 2007 due to its amazing beauty and excellence. This is the largest and one of the most esteemed national parks of Madagascar and covers a total area of 250 000 ha. The Park comprises of seven units of protected area including the rainforest and marine parks.

Masoala provides an excellent opportunity to experience the unique flora and fauna of this big island.

There are ten lemur species, including the flamboyant Red-Ruffed Lemur, which are native to the peninsula as well as many kinds of chameleons and other reptiles, hosts of birds, amphibians, and mammals…

Day 4: Masoala – Nosy Mangabe

Today, transfer by speed boat for 20-minutes to reach Nosy Mangabe.

This beautiful rain forest covered island offers spectacles in abundance: the highlight is obviously the peculiar Aye-aye which is the largest nocturnal primate in the world with its 40 cm body length.

These extremely rare lemurs were introduced here by man during the 60s in order to establish a reserve to protect them from extinction.

Tonight, we take a night walk to look for nocturnal animals in their natural habitat (a headlamp is useful).

Day 5: Nosy Mangabe – Maroantsetra – Antananarivo

In the morning, transfer back by boat to Maroantsetra then drive to the airport of Maroantsetra for your flight to Tana. End of services.

Each group will have an English speaking Tour Manager. During the visits in the parks and reserves, an affiliated guide of National Parks of Madagascar will accompany the groups.

For convenience and comfort and in order to minimise disruption in the different natural environments we visit, groups are limited from 2 to a maximum of 12 (twelve) participants.

Canoeing Down The Tsiribihina

Antananarivo - Antsirabe - Miandrivazo - Tsaraotana - Morondava

This five day tour combines a canoe trip down the Tsiribihina River using a traditional wooden boat made from timber endemic to the region. Our journey will take about three days and we will spend around six to seven hours a day on the river. Explore the Sakalava countryside from a different perspective and at night, sleep on the river shores sharing the campsites with turtles and crocodiles...

Canoe down the Tsiribihina River and visit to the Tsingy of Bemaraha National Park. Explore the Sakalava country as you travel down the river and sleep on the river shores. Visit the Tsingy of Bemaraha National Park - a spectacular mineral forest, formed by a labyrinth of sharp stone needles, is an incredible sight and offers wonderful trekking opportunities through the bizarre and unique Tsingys.
